The Web Designers’ Secret in Creating and Publishing a Website

Aug 31st, 2015

A typical query:

I have downloaded some CSS Templates and I have edited it in the DESIGN MODE of Microsoft Expression Web and Dreamweaver CS3. I don’t know how to publish it. How do i upload my page to my site? Do i need a website with my own domain? I have a free web hosting service (X10 Hosting and Freewebs [HTML Mode]), but how do I put my page there? Please be elaborate in answering as I’am only a beginner. Thank you.

Answer: Warning! Using unreliable cheap hosting can leave you devastated and your hard work may be gone in seconds.. Web hosting is one of the most important part of your web presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.

If you cannot find the answer to your question like above, that just means that you have chosen the wrong web hosting service. Using free hosting is not the best solution if you are making your site from scratch and want it to upload in your server. The primary reason for this is free hosting has limited support when it comes to ftp, database, and php. The best alternative is to use premium ftp web hosting service.

Best FTP Hosting Provider

To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best web hosting around.

Hostgator provides ftp, database and php suport which you need if you want to upload your site. Just sign up with them and you will receive an email concerning your hosting account(includes your cpanel and ftp login details). Just install Filezilla, login using your ftp login details and drag and drop your files to your desired location(public_html or www.) That’s it! You should’ve have published your site.

The quickest and easiest way to establish a connection between a local machine (the computer you are connecting from) and a remote server (the computer/server you are connecting to) using FileZilla is by using the ‘Quickconnect’ bar.

Enter the correct Host/Domain/IP address into the ‘Host:’ field. This could be the server name, the server IP, domain name, and in some cases ftp.domain.com. For a HostGator account, yourdomain.com will be fine so long as it is properly pointed towards the server.

  1. Enter the correct FTP username into the ‘Username:’ field. This can be the cPanel username which is also an FTP account.
  2. Enter the correct password for the user previously entered.
  3. Enter port 21 for FTP and port 22 for SFTP.
  4. Click the ‘Quickconnect’ button. In the window immediately below, results of the the connection will be shown. A successful connection will end in “Directory listing successful.

What if you find out that Hostgator sucks after you signed up with them? HG has an amazingly long, 45 days money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon ). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Anybody can grab an account from Hostgator for almost FREE.

Who Should Not Try Hostgator

To be honest, no web hosting service is perfect. Drawback of Hostgator includes:

  1. No free domain name – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
  2. You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost

If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just shoot them some questions before you decide.

That was the pre-text they wrote for me. This is what I actually think of it. I have been using this service for a while now, and I’m satisfied. I get free, what would cost like $150 on lunarpages or godaddy or something like that. And then, you can even upgrade for even more features for just $5 a month! That’s what I think about it. I’m not going to put my site’s link on here so my answer won’t get reported for advertising, but if you want to see my site to decide if you like the service and the templates they offer, just email me and I’ll send you a link otherwise, just visit the site and check it out!

P.S. They really do offer what they say they offer.

To upload to a website you need an FTP program (File transfer protocol). You will need the web address, password and host name.
You also need an index page (index.html) for the first page.
Here’s a website with lots of help also:
